Located on a plateau 2500 meters above the sea level, and surrounded by hills, valleys, and historic forts, Pune is referred to as the "Queen of Deccan" and is India's 7th largest city. Pune is also known as the cultural capital of Maharshtra and is regarded for its climate, many educational institutes, rich history and architecture, and both technological and industrial business opportunities. Marathi and Hindi are the two main languages spoken in Pune, though English is widely spoken and understood.
With a cosmopolitan population over 4 million, Pune is a rapidly growing major industrial center in India, and is quickly emerging as an information technology hub. One of the leading destinations for IT investments, Pune is located not far from India's financial capital, Mumbai (formerly known as Bombay).
