Three companies honored in new category for 2003 Innovation Awards
Austin, TX, March 30, 2004 - Alereon, an Ultra wideband (UWB) semiconductor company focused on chipsets for the personal area networking market, has been named one of three finalists for the first-ever Electronic Data News (EDN) "Start-up of the Year" award.
The "Start-up of the Year" award is a new addition to the EDN editors' 14th Annual Innovation Awards. The EDN Innovation Awards honor engineering professionals and products in several categories, including "Network and Communication Chips," "Embedded Products," "Digital ICs," and "Software."
"EDN's editors have chosen this year's finalists from the scores of candidates in our annual Innovator and Innovation Program," said EDN Editor-in-Chief Maury Wright. "In the spirit of innovation yet to come, we've initiated a category to identify those companies with the vision and resources we believe are necessary to rise above the noise and succeed in their respective spaces. Our three start-up finalists were chosen from a number of potential candidates, both in the U.S. and abroad."
After EDN editors choose the finalists in each category, engineers and engineering managers cast online ballots to determine the winners.
"We were thrilled to be one of only three finalists nominated for start-up of the year," said Eric Broockman, chief executive officer of Alereon. "Receiving such recognition from the editors at EDN shows us that our efforts in the field of ultra wideband are being recognized by some of the brightest minds following the technology industry."
The other finalists in the "Start-up of the Year" category included fabless semiconductor companies Entropic Communications and Motia, the category winner.
EDN honored the finalists and winners at a sold-out awards ceremony in San Francisco on March 29 with a keynote address from Dick Lampman, Hewlett-Packard's senior vice president of research and HP Labs director. The winners are posted on EDN's website. For more information, visit http://www.reed-electronics.com/ednmag/article/CA376627.
