Experienced wireless solutions engineer, executive and advocate will lead working group specializing in Wireless PAN standards
Austin, TX – July 25, 2005 - Alereon, a leading fabless semiconductor company developing wireless solutions for the Ultrawideband (UWB) and Wireless USB (W-USB) markets, today announced the company's chief technology officer (CTO), Dr. Jim Lansford, was elected co-chairman of the IEEE 802.15.3a High Rate Alternative PHY Task Group. The vote took place at the conclusion of the IEEE 802 meeting in San Francisco.
The IEEE 802.15.3a Task Group focuses on the development of High Rate Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) standards. WPANs are often made up of a variety of personal computer and consumer electronic devices, such as: Personal Digital Assistants (PDAs), MP3 players, cell phones, pagers, laptop computers and peripherals.
"I appreciate having the confidence of my peers and look forward to serving the 802.15.3a Task Group," said Dr. Jim Lansford, chief technology officer, Alereon. "International standards are an important part of bringing new technologies to market. Standards bodies such as IEEE 802 help create the technology ecosystem that enables multiple vendors to deliver interoperable products, creating value for consumers. I look forward to working with my IEEE colleagues on the best way to bring the exciting benefits of ultrawideband wireless through the standards process and into the market."
Dr. Jim Lansford is chief technology officer of Alereon. Dr. Lansford has more than 25 years of experience in communications system analysis and design as well as digital signal processing.
