Family Expands to Include Mini PCI and ExpressCard/34 for Host Applications
Intel Developer's Forum - San Francisco – Sept. 26, 2006 – Alereon, Inc., the ultrawideband (UWB) technology leader for mobile WiMedia and Certified Wireless USB solutions, today announced the availability of its Mini PCI and ExpressCard/34 reference designs for host applications.
The Alereon Mini PCI and ExpressCard/34 reference designs were developed to provide fast and simple ways for customers to generate solutions based on Certified Wireless USB from the USB-IF or on the WiMedia specification for desktop and laptop PCs. The ExpressCard/34, appearing in many new notebook systems, boasts superior performance and lower power consumption compared to the aging Cardbus or PCMCIA slot, making it a better choice for today's UWB solutions. Mini PCI is a smaller-sized implementation of the common PCI specification already used today in designs for laptop and desktop computers.
The Alereon Mini PCI and ExpressCard/34 designs are currently available using multiple WiMedia Media Access Controller (MAC) chip vendors. Both reference designs can be leveraged across numerous market segments, minimizing time-to-market requirements and maximizing ROI for all of Alereon's customers.
"Our Mini PCI and ExpressCard/34 reference designs expand the possibilities of today's PC architectures by providing new product options based on either Certified Wireless USB or WiMedia technology," said Eric Broockman, CEO of Alereon. "Our strong engineering expertise and alignment with MAC vendors enables our customers to design, manufacture and market cost-effective, wireless UWB solutions."
The Mini PCI and ExpressCard/34 join Alereon's reference design family, which includes Cardbus cards and USB dongles for WiMedia and Wireless USB hosts and Compact Flash cards for devices based on Certified Wireless USB.
