Alereon’s 3rd generation highly integrated 65 nm AL6000 Family chipset integrates the RF transceiver, BBP/MAC, and firmware/software, to implement a complete WiMedia UWB product that supports all protocol adaptation layers, including Wireless USB device and IP based protocols. The Alereon AL6000 family covers all worldwide band groups 0, 1, 3, 4, 5, and 6 from 3.1–10.6 GHz and all WiMedia TFCs.The AL6000 family was designed to allow easy implementation of wireless HDMI and VGA applications for laptop to HDTV; wireless office applications, such as docking stations; and mobile device applications, such as tablets, smart phones or digital camera to HDTV.
The Alereon AL6301 BBP/MAC integrates all digital and mixed signal circuitry for a WiMedia UWB system providing high-speed wireless connectivity using Wireless USB, and the IP based WiMedia Link Layer Protocol. The AL6301 BBP/MAC uses a low power, highly efficient 200 MHz ARM926 processor combined with high-precision hardware timers and specialized hardware for accelerating encryption and packet processing with 256k DPSRAM. Includes sophisticated clock gating for low power operation and very low leakage power.
An on-chip SD/SDIO Host controller supports high speed transfers of stored media content to off load the device host processor. The AL6301 BBP/MAC contains both an SDIO slave and USB 2.0 OTG interface for connecting to a host processor or to upstream devices. Alereon’s NoWire™ driverless firmware and QuickLink™ association firmware are also supported.
AL5100 RF Transciever
The AL5100 transceiver integrates analog RF front-end components including synthesizer VCO/PLL, anti-alias filters, LNAs, PAs, and transmit/receive (T/R) switches, and supports a single ended connection to the antenna eliminating external baluns.

SD/SDIO Host Controller
TThe AL6301 BBP/MAC contains an on-chip SD/SDIO host controller to support high speed transfer of media content directly from an SD-HC memory device to the AL6000 chipset for wireless transmission without clocking the data through the host processor of the device. The SD memory device is still accessible for W/R operations by the host processor through either the USB or SDIO interfaces of the AL6301 BBP/MAC.
NoWire™ and QuickLink™ Firmware Options
The AL6301/AL5100 chipset supports Alereon’s NoWire™ OS agnostic driverless firmware, which enables true out-of-the-box usage without the need to install drivers or applications. AL6301 based host radio adapters can auto install 3rd part drivers from its flash memory for true CD-less installations. For classic Wireless USB applications, HWA and DWA drivers are provided in conjunction with Alereon’s Wireless USB Manager User Interface. Supported association methods include cable, long PIN, and Alereon’s QuickLink™ protocol - a session based association method for public devices like wireless projectors and kiosks.
