Alereon is actively involved in many groups working to develop and implement industry standards for the emerging UWB market. Alereon's first product will be compatible with the emerging Ecma International standard for PAN communications. Large consumer electronics and personal computing companies are participating in the formation of the standard and several are working with Alereon as it develops its first chipset product.

Ecma International

Since its inception in 1961, Ecma International (Ecma) is developing standards for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) and Consumer Electronics (CE). Ecma is a non-profit industry association of technology developers, vendors and users. Industry and other experts work together at Ecma to complete standards. Ecma submits the approved work for approval as ISO, ISO/IEC and ETSI standards and is the inventor and main practitioner of "fast tracking" of specifications through the standardization process in global standards bodies such as the ISO. Publications can be downloaded free of charge from http://www.ecma-international.org. The specifications for UWB in Ecma are ECMA-368 High Rate Ultra Wideband PHY and MAC standard and ECMA-369 MAC-PHY Interface for ECMA-368.
