Overview
The U.S. military is seeking to eliminate cables used in soldier applications through the Intra-Soldier Wireless (ISW) effort. Cables present a snag hazard, add to pack weight, and require setup on every use. Common wireless technologies such as WiFi and Bluetooth do not meet the combination of high bandwidth, channel density, low probability of interference, and low-probability of detection required for combat use. The government has selected Alereon’s UWB solution as the wireless technology of choice for the ISW effort. Alereon’s UWB solution covers much more spectrum than WiFi does and avoids interference from every widespread wireless technology. The massive bandwidth using quiet radio signals allows UWB to provide guaranteed bandwidth even in dense configurations such as soldier squads, while minimizing an adversary’s ability to detect the signals.
Wireless Sights and Displays
Alereon works with defense contractors and government agencies to enable wireless sights (such as FWS-I) and wireless heads-up displays (such as ENVG-B and IVAS). Alereon’s ultrawideband technology provides significant guaranteed bandwidth for video, while avoiding interference and minimizing soldier detection. This technology enables sight-to-display solutions that increase soldier lethality without risk of detection and without a snag-hazard cable.
Wireless Positioning
Alereon works with defense contractors and government agencies to enable wireless integration of positioning equipment, including laser range finders, GPS, and squad weapons (such as NGSW-FC). Alereon’s ultrawideband technology funnels positioning information to other devices, such as weapon sights and smartphones, while avoiding interference and minimizing soldier detection. This technology enables on-demand collection of positioning information by processing devices without cumbersome cables.
Off-Body Radio Access
Alereon works with defense contractors and government agencies to enable wireless integration of off-body radios (leader radios) with devices that send or receive audio or data, such as headsets and PTTs. Alereon’s ultrawideband technology shuttles audio and data between the radio and other devices, such as audio headsets and smartphones, while avoiding interference and minimizing soldier detection. This technology enables access to the off-body radio without cumbersome cables.
Soldier Body Area Networks
Alereon works with defense contractors and government agencies to enable wireless integration of virtually any soldier electronic device while avoiding interference and minimizing soldier detection. This technology enables access amongst soldier-borne devices without cumbersome cables.
Smartphone Integration
Alereon works with defense contractors and government agencies to enable wireless integration of virtually any soldier electronic device with a smartphone while avoiding interference and minimizing soldier detection. This technology enables the smartphone to communicate with and control various soldier-borne devices without cumbersome cables.
In-Vehicle Video
Alereon works with defense contractors and government agencies to enable wireless video inside land and air vehicles. This technology enables wireless video broadcast inside a cab, cockpit, or cargo area while avoiding interference from other wireless technologies and minimizing detection of propagated radio waves.
Mobile Wireless Networking
Alereon works with defense contractors and government agencies to enable short-range and highly mobile networking solutions that are difficult to detect. Alereon’s ultrawideband technology provides short-range guaranteed bandwidth across a large number of channels while avoiding interference from other wireless technologies and minimizing detection. The result is a reliable and mobile short-range network of computing devices. Applications include mobile command posts, forward area machine-to-machine communications, and more.
Overview
Wireless medical devices are the future in medicine as medical practitioners seek to eliminate cables. Not only do cables present a snag hazard, they require expensive and time-consuming sterilization procedures after treatment of each patient. As WiFi has found heavy use in hospitals as a LAN network, over-saturation of the WiFi spectrum is causing WiFi-based medical devices to experience frequent performance degradation that can put patients at risk. Alereon’s ultrawideband (UWB) solutions are perfectly suited to address this dilemma. UWB covers much more spectrum than WiFi does and avoids interference from WiFi and every other widespread wireless technology. This massive bandwidth coupled with quiet radio signals allows UWB to provide guaranteed bandwidth in hospital environments. See below some of the many medical solutions Alereon enables.
Wireless HD Displays
Alereon works with medical device manufacturers to provide wireless display solutions that are unaffected by WiFi. Alereon’s ultrawideband technology provides significantly more guaranteed bandwidth for video, while avoiding the degradation of performance that results from WiFi interference. The result is reliable HD video all the time. Applications include operating room displays, diagnostic procedure displays, and more.
Wireless HD Cameras
Alereon works with medical device manufacturers to provide wireless camera solutions that are unaffected by WiFi. Alereon’s ultrawideband technology provides significantly more guaranteed bandwidth for video, while avoiding the degradation of performance that results from WiFi interference. The result is reliable HD video all the time. Applications include ultrasound, endoscopy, dental, patient monitoring, and more.
Wireless Networking
Alereon works with medical device manufacturers to provide in-room networking solutions that are unaffected by WiFi. Alereon’s ultrawideband technology provides in-room guaranteed bandwidth across a large number of channels while avoiding WiFi interference. The result is a reliable in-room network of computing devices that does not collide with WiFi networks. Applications include networks of end user devices and networks of medical equipment using machine-to-machine communication.
Overview
The proliferation of WiFi both at home and at work has created over-saturation of WiFi spectrum, even while bandwidth needs explode as streaming video dominates the network. This combination of crowded WiFi spectrum and increasing bandwidth need has led to frequent performance degradation for the average consumer. Alereon’s ultrawideband (UWB) solutions provide a means of escaping this vicious cycle. UWB covers much more spectrum than WiFi does and avoids interference from WiFi, Bluetooth, and every other widespread wireless technology. This massive bandwidth coupled with quiet radio signals allows UWB to provide guaranteed bandwidth even in dense configurations such as offices and apartments. See below some of the many consumer electronic solutions Alereon enables.
Wireless Docking Stations
Wireless docking stations provide video, audio, USB, and Ethernet connectivity through a single UWB radio dongle. Alereon’s UWB technology provides significantly more guaranteed bandwidth for video while avoiding congestion-based degradation. The combination of abundant UWB spectrum and limited radio wave propagation allows dense deployments of stations in office environments.
Wireless Monitors
Wireless monitors allow consumers to cut the cord between monitor and PC. Alereon’s UWB technology provides significantly more guaranteed bandwidth for video, while avoiding the degradation of performance that results from WiFi user saturation.
Wireless PC-to-HDTV
Computer-to-HDTV streaming devices allow consumers to use a TV like a wireless monitor. Unlike similar WiFi products that only stream content from the web, Alereon’s UWB solutions mirror your PC, laptop, or tablet’s screen on an HDTV in real time, allowing you to display content of your choice and use your HDTV as a fully-responsive monitor.
Wireless Cable Replacement
Alereon’s UWB solutions allow you to replace virtually any cable, including HDMI, DVI, VGA, USB, Ethernet, and audio. The abundance of UWB spectrum and limited radio wave propagation allow you to replace multiple cables in a small space, such as an office, but without the degradation experienced by WiFi solutions.
